DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

  • The maximum FOUR storeys building (subject to maximum height/storey required by local council) must be able to accommodate at least 250 people at any one time.

  • The gross floor area for ground and upper floors should not be more than 2500sqm.

  • To maximize site potential, the student needs to plan the site layout with proper arrangement of the main building, guard house, drop-off area, landscaping, and provision of appropriate number of parking spaces (including staff) as per project and local authority requirements as well as smooth circulation for the loading dock.

  • The overall development must consider the proposed site’s topography condition and Malaysia’s tropical climate.


SITE ANALYSIS

The analysis of the project site is carried out as a group which consists of all my studio mates. This group's tasks include carrying out site analysis, searching for the latest information regarding statutory requirements and relevant precedent studies.

BOARD PRESENTATION


DESIGN CONCEPT - Shinrin-yoku [ Forest -bathing


Men who live among the hustle and bustle of the city forget what is great about nature. Arts Retreat with the concept of Shinrin-yoku [ Forest -bathing ] serves to reconnect the people with the natural surrounding. By having a site just by the river, it aims to connect the nature with the occupants by connecting the forest behind with the retreat and the river in front, bluring the boundaries between the forest, retreat and the river. The arts retreat invites artists and art enthusiasts to immerse their sensorial perception within the nature in the arts retreat as though walking into the forest. Space arrangement, building orientation and passive design strategies are taken into the context to design an eco-antidote arts retreat for the occupants to relax in the retreat and allow the occupants to reconnect to the natural surrounding, at the same time inspire them to acknowledge the importance of the nature.
