DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

  • The maximum FIVE stories (not including basement parking) building must be able to accommodate at least 500 people at any one time.

  • The floor area for ground and upper floors should not be more than 4500m2.

  • To maximize the potential of the site, students need to plan the site layout with the proper arrangement of the building(s), landscaping, sufficient provision of car parking (including for staff & OKU) and smooth pedestrian & vehicular circulation with appropriate site entrance & exit point, drop off area and loading bay.

  • The Senior Wellness Centre should be accessible to the aged, children, and disabled people

  • The building and whole development of the Senior Wellness Centre must consider the tropical climate of Malaysia as well as the topography condition and the historic environment of the proposed site.

The analysis of the project site is carried out as a group which consists of all my studio mates. This group's tasks include carrying out site analysis, searching for the latest information regarding statutory requirements and relevant precedent studies.

BOARD PRESENTATION


DESIGN CONCEPT

Design concept for the senior wellness centre in Taiping draws inspiration from the creativity and collaborative nature of LEGO. Emphasizing open，green and vibrant spaces, the design promotes social interaction and a sense of community within an urban context. The integration of lush greenery and natural elements enhances well-being, providing a serene atmosphere. Promoting an open and inviting environment, the design incorporates ample windows and glass elements to maximize natural lighting and provide views of the surrounding urban landscape. This approach not only enhances the visual aesthetics but also promotes a sense of well-being and connection to the outside world.


Inspired by the playful nature of LEGO, the building embraces a vibrant and colorful palette. The use of diverse colors throughout the interior and exterior spaces creates an engaging atmosphere, stimulating the senses and enhancing the overall well-being of the seniors. Each color is thoughtfully chosen to evoke different emotions and create a lively ambiance within the wellness centre. Besides, the design concept emphasizes community integration within the urban fabric of Taiping. The wellness centre serves as a hub for seniors, promoting social interaction and engagement. Its architectural expression complements the surrounding urban context, incorporating elements that reflect Taiping's urban identity. The design aims to contribute positively to the urban landscape and create a distinctive landmark that embodies the spirit of the community.
