DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

  • Based on the results from site analysis, building requirements, and precedent studies, each student is required to produce a design proposal for a 3-Storey building for Pulau Perhentian Youth & Community Development Centre. The proposed design must consist of 3 usable floors with a maximum floor area of 1300 m2

  • The building must clearly show its connection to the existing surroundings, i.e. natural land profile (contours), existing vehicular road, existing natural and artificial landscape inclusive of vegetations, the historical and cultural context, pedestrian traffic, pavement, cycling lane etc.

  • The building must be provided with facilities fit for disabled people (both old and young); strictly in compliance with UBBL 1986 (Amendment 2012), MS1184 & MS1183 (Universal Design). The building must harmonize with the prevailing site conditions and the tropical climate of Malaysia.

SITE ANALYSIS

The analysis of the project site is carried out as a group which consists of all my studio mates. This group's tasks include carrying out site analysis, searching for the latest information regarding statutory requirements and relevant precedent studies.

The data information is composed and the link is attached as follows.

BOARD PRESENTATION

DESIGN CONCEPT

Naluri [INNSAEI] can mean “the sea within” which is the borderless nature of our inner world, a constantly moving world of vision, feelings and imagination beyond words. It can mean “to see within” which means to know yourself, and to know yourself well enough to be able to put yourself in other people’s shoes. And it can mean “to see from the inside out” which is to have a strong inner compass to navigate your way in our ever-changing world. Intuition binds us together, without it we lose our sense of purpose and belonging. When we learn how to balance both intuition and logic, by consciously sensing the world from the inside out, not just from the outside in.

Naluri [INNSAEI]: CULTURE FROM THE INSIDE-OUT is used as a design concept is to bring Pulau Perhentian culture into the building on inside out and let the building adapt with the Pulau Perhentian itself, at the same time let culture connects all the community together and brings the community into the building.
