SPACE DIVIDER COMPETITION

The ‘Space Divider’ Competition is held in conjunction with the World Architecture Day (WAD) 2022 event organised by Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM) Northern Chapter (henceforth referred to as the “Organiser”). The World Architecture Day (WAD) is an initiative by the International Union of Architects (UIA) to celebrate and appreciate architects for their efforts to shape the lives of people around the world. It is typically celebrated every year on the first Monday in October to coincide with the United Nations World Habitat Day. The theme for WAD this year is “Design for Health”. It will focus on the important role design and architecture play in fostering, restoring and rejuvenating physical and mental well-being.; Architects around the world are invited to organise activities to use evidence-based design to promote health in buildings and cities.

WAD 2022 is set at Hin Bus Depot - A former-bus depot-turned-creative bustling hub with a variety of cafes and restaurants, art installations, and workshops for a fun-filled weekend. The main seminar program will be held in an open structure indoor venue- ‘The Deck’. Hin Bus Deport is a public venue that indeed is open to anyone. The organising committee wish to get more public to celebrate WAD, at the same time have to minimize any distraction during a talk/presentation. To ensure better experience for WAD attendees, the Organising Committee sought to create a platform for architects and architecture students to contribute their creativity for the event place. The space divider shall help to keep distractions and noise down to a minimum within this shared event space.

The ‘Space Divider’ shall show how inside-outside space can be artfully divided. The divider should not only look good but also serve the purpose of a barrier to separate the function space. In addition to provide visual protection to the indoor event space, it should also allow in natural lighting and ventilation.
