In this project, all of us are required to select a heritage building and study on its history, background, architectural styles, ordering principles and its key features or ornaments. Then, we need to produce a poster with the building in it and also with all the building information collected. This project requires us to discover the beauty and the uniqueness of the heritage building in order for us to appreciate the importance of preserving the gem of the old malaya.
I choose Yap Kongsi, a building which is situated in Georgetown, Penang as I found this building quite interesting in its designing such as the roof colour, the carvings on the pillars, roof and also the stone walls. It is quite fun to acknowledge that the curved roof is built because Buddhist believes it helps to ward 0ff evil spirits. Besides, the stone pillars have many beautiful Chinese carving decorations which Chinese dragons and human figures that represent the Taonism gods. The carvings are really unique and attract me to read more about Yap Kongsi. Everyone should appreaciate and preserve the exist heritage buildings in Malaysia as those buildings are the gem of old malaya!
