PROJECT 3A: SITE ANALYSIS

This is the first site analysis that I can get to carry out site analysis with my coursemates at the site physically. In this site analysis, we get experienced diploma students to lead us and teach us the correct method of doing site analysis. Really appreciate their efforts and patience in leading us in the site analysis. In the collecting data part of site analysis, I join site and zoning group and I did acquire a lot of knowledge from my leader. Then, all of us are distributed into three groups which are technical group, rendering group and model group. It is very fun to have physical site analysis as I did learn a lot of knowledge and I really hope that all of us get to have face-to-face studio classes in year two!

PROJECT 3B: BOARD PRESENTATION

In this project, we are required to design a single storey small liveable eco cabana for our chosen clients by following the requirements provided in the brief such as:

  • The proposed design should accommodate 1-2 person only and needs to include bathroom, a small pantry, sleeping area, workstation, living area, and an open deck.

  • Proposed built-up area NOT MORE THAN 40 meter square including an open deck.

  • Dimensions (Length and width) of the building: Free to propose.

  • Dimension (Height): LIMITED TO 7.5 METERS (from ground level to roof edge)

  • The proposed design should consider PASSIVE DESIGN STRATEGIES

My chosen client is a landscape painter and I name this Eco Cabana project as 'Psyche' with a design concept of 'Windows to the kaleidoscopic soul'. 'Psyche' means human soul and it is used as my project name in order to bring out my design purpose of enriching the painter's soul in order for him/her to have more ideas to paint. Besides, based on my design concept, 'Windows to the soul' represents eyes and 'kaleidoscopic soul' represents colourful soul. I use this as my design concept as to bring out the idea of the connectivity between eyes, brain, soul and the environment. Painters paint based on what they saw. A painter sees through vision and what he or she sees will then be transferred to the brain and the brain will interpret it. Brain controls how a painter draws based on what he or she saw and more importantly how interesting his or her soul is. Therefore, a comfortable Eco Cabana is crucial to help the painter to get a balanced lifestyle by having a balance rest and work time so that the painter's mind can be opened for the ideas to flow freely.

PROJECT 3C: SCALE MODEL

This model is made in a scale of 1:50 by using materials of white artcard papers and polystyrene foam. Then, the model is placed on a base of 40cm x 40cm x 1.5cm and I glue the artificial grass powder on the base to make it looks as if placing the model on the site.

Different elevations of my model and a video showing sun path from day to night towards my model are shown as follows:
