Project 4A : Site Analysis

This is the first architectural studio project which involves site analysis. However, due to the rising pandemic covid-19, all of us can just work together to carry out the distributed work separately. With the help of some of batch mates who stay in USM to collect data and take pictures of our site area, we manage to accomplish the site analysis board and the most important part is that we learn ways to do site analysis before designing structures or buildings at the site area and at the same time acknowledge that site analysis is very crucial before any designing is done at the site. Although it is not a very perfect site analysis board, the more important part is that we learn and improve in the next project. Really do hope that all of us can return to USM campus and work together on site analysis physically next time.

Project 4B : BOARD PRESENTATION

IRATZE

The folly I designed is IRATZE which brings a meaning of healing. Nowadays, I realised that many of us will get depressed or down due to daily stress and not able to express it out, consequently, it will lead to mental illness or disorder. Get inspired by IRATZE, I decide to design a folly which can help students or anyone in USM to heal from any mental problems or stress and get relaxed.

With the intention to help everyone to get relaxed, nature element is implemented in the design as green stands for healing. Therefore, some features are designed for healing and relaxing purposes as such:

1. Open deck that enables visitors to view the existing good nature and greenery scenery which is effective for healing purposes.

2. Interior and exterior green wall helps in healing purposes in vision and also helps to cool down the interior temperature. Moreover, consistent fresh air is available in the interior environment as oxygen is produced by the wall plants.

3. Rainwater harvesting water fountain is able to help in relaxing and healing purposes as it will produce calming sounds.

4. Seating area is for visitors to get a rest and chit chat to get relax.

5. Reading area is to provide a place for visitors to study here. This is because with the calming sounds of the water fountain. Visitors can get to focus more and study more efficiently.

Project 4C : Model Making

This is the model made using a scale of 1:25. It is quite interesting as I get to explore with different type of material to make my model. The folly which I designed is mainly wood due to the implementation of nature features. Therefore, I try to find different types of wood material in order to fit with my design. I use lighter colour of balsa wood to represent plywood and also floor finish while using a warm colour brown wood to represent hardwood and a nearly black colour wood as the roof flashing.

Basically, I have used many types of material in model making such as artcard, drawing paper, craftpaper, furniture wood finishes, satay sticks, portfolio plastic cover, artificial plants, watercolour paint, UHU glue, hot glue and double sided tape.

I can say that I did enjoy myself a lot in model making. Looking forward to the next project in the next semester!

Final project completed indicates that Architecture Design Studio Semester One has come to an end. I can say that it is quite fun and interesting. Really appreciate USM lecturers' dedication on helping us a lot in the learning process. I'm very lucky as I'm able to acquire skills and knowledge! Hope to experience physical studio classes and meet up with lecturers in the next semester in USM!
